The Global Lives Project went back to school twice in April, with immersive video exhibits at Envision Academy in Oakland, and Gateway Middle School in San Francisco. Teachers and administrators at both schools worked with the Global Lives education crew beforehand to prepare and devise the best experience for their students, and this work certainly paid off!

Students at Envision Academy experienced the daily lives of others as they moved from class to class, the videos set up in the school’s foyer thanks to John Kittredge’s enthusiasm and resourcefulness.

“The best thing about having this opportunity is that it truly changes people’s view about what is happening in the real world,” commented one student at Envision.

“The best thing I about the exhibit was that we got a chance to see peoples lives and how they live, which made me think of trying to help them when I get older,” – 9th grade student, Envision Academy, Oakland, California.

The Gateway students came together to bring the exhibit their school thanks to Michael Bell’s leadership. The exhibit was set up into a shared space as classroom sets, allowing the students to eat lunch as they viewed.

It also connects them to a more local community of arts and artistic journalism. “Jessie Martinez, 6th grade teacher at Gateway Middle School

Both exhibits showed the importance of the work of our education team, and solidified our goal to bring this incredible experience to as many schools as possible.
