Joel Elliott is a writer and filmmaker originally from Toronto, where he received his Master of Fine Arts in Documentary Media at Ryerson University. His thesis work consisted of a short feature, based loosely on his travels through Turkey and Armenia, that interweaves biblical myth, history, and the artist’s own imagination. He is currently based in Seoul where he remains heavily involved in the expat filmmaking community, working on sound, camera, and editing for various projects, including his own. Having always been interested in both narrative and documentary filmmaking, he is incorporating both into a short experimental film about the Korean War and the breakup of the peninsula. He is also in the process of shooting a feature-length documentary about noise and silence.
