Production Legal Kit
Download Global Lives Project Production Legal Kit>>
In the zipped file available for download here, you will find various documents to use, as applicable, at your filming sessions. We ask you to use these materials in order to ensure maximum legal protection for yourself and the Global Lives Project. The documents enclosed include:
General releases (use only one of the following releases per individual filmed)
• General release
• Oral form of general release
• Oral form of general release for minors
Location releases (use only one of the following releases per location)
• Location release
• Oral form of location release
Other documents
• “Filming in progress” sign (for display when filming)
• Clearance report (for our internal Global Lives Project purposes only)
Instructions
In choosing between the general release forms, the document titled “General Release” should be used if it is practical for the releasing party to take the time to read, comprehend and sign the form. If the releasing party is illiterate, for example, or the impending shoot will not provide sufficient time to review, use the applicable form of oral release. Please apply the same approach in determining which form of location release you will provide to a land owner. We encourage the use of the non-oral forms wherever possible.
Additionally, we ask that you make sure that you display the “Filming in progress” sign at all times when filming.
Finally, for internal purposes, please fill out a clearance report describing every person who appears on camera for more than a few seconds in a recognizable way. Crowd or street scenes need not be included. Also, please make sure to include all crew members, whether or not they appear on camera. If any copyrighted music is recorded for more than 30 seconds, please list the song name and artist if available.
