Funding
The Global Lives Project is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization with no full-time staff. Our funds come primarily from donations from individuals like you, grants from foundations and occasionally from commissioned installations.
For shoots that fit into our first series of ten shoots, we have raised funds for small production grants designed only to cover direct production expenses. These shoots are nearing completion at present. We are currently in the process of raising funds for additional shoots beyond these ten.
If you would like to apply for funding for a shoot in 2009, please look at our completed shoots and then submit a complete production proposal. Funds awarded during 2009 will be in the USD 250 - 500 range and will only cover essential expenses such as tapes, food or ground transportation costs. Proposals requesting funds exceeding this amount will be considered only if the subject is deemed to make a particularly exciting contribution to our collection of footage. Director/Producers that demonstrate that other funding and/or in-kind donations have already been secured from other sources will be favored.
Proposals will have a higher likelihood of being accepted if they are for shoots in countries or regions where we do not yet have shoots. We also prefer to fund shoots with subjects who will add diversity to our current collection of footage, whether that be through their occupation, age, income, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, or otherwise. Proposals are evaluated by a committee composed of representatives from each of our previous shoots.
While subjects living in politically charged environments or whose lives draw attention to a specific cause are often exciting to us, please note that this is absolutely not a requirement for a Global Lives subject. In fact, the more "boring" or "normal" a person might seem to you, the more interesting they might be to someone on the other side of the world.
