2009 Internship Opportunities, Global Lives Project

Seeking Business,CS/Engineering & Film/Video Students, in particular.

The Global Lives Project (GLP) is a 501c3 nonprofit new media startup that leverages the power of peer production and digital video technology to create a participatory video "library" of human life experience. Inspired by projects like Wikipedia and Linux, we are a collaborative effort of more than 80 volunteers in 8 countries working to reshape global mediascapes and fundamentally change how individuals from diverse cultures and nations regard one another.

Based in San Francisco and São Paulo, Brazil, we have three major program areas under development: 1) a traveling video installation featuring ten 24-hour recordings of daily life from around the world, 2) a participatory online video library based on the installation's content and accepting public submissions and 3) educational curriculum materials to bring our content into classroom settings. We have conducted video shoots in Brazil, Malawi, Japan, China, India, Indonesia, Serbia, Lebanon and the US.  We are planning to conduct our final shoot in Central or Western Asia in 2009.

We are looking for graduate or exceptional undergraduate students particularly in business, computer science, engineering, video/film or related fields to intern during the 2008 Spring semester to drive forward aspects of each of these initiatives.  Internships require a commitment of a minimum of 10 hours per week during 13 weeks.
